In response, Hindenburg has stated that it fully stands by its report and believes any legal action taken against them would be without merit. Breaking News: Union Health Ministry Implements Strict Anti-Tobacco Rules for OTT Platforms

The Union Health Ministry has issued new rules requiring Over the Top (OTT) platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar to display anti-tobacco warnings. In a bid to align with regulations for movies and TV programs, OTT platforms will now be obligated to show anti-tobacco health spots of at least 30 seconds each at the beginning and middle of the content. Additionally, when tobacco products or their use are depicted, a prominent static message with an anti-tobacco health warning must be displayed at the bottom of the screen. Furthermore, a 20-second audio-visual disclaimer will be shown at the start and midpoint of the program.

These warnings, health spots, and disclaimers must have legible and readable text in black on a white background, featuring phrases like "Tobacco causes cancer" or "Tobacco kills." The guidelines emphasize that the language of these messages should align with the content language. Moreover, displaying tobacco brands is strictly prohibited.

Non-compliance with the rules may lead to strict action by the Union Health Ministry and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. An inter-ministerial committee, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, will address any failures and issue notices for appropriate modifications. It is important to note that "online curated content" refers to curated catalogs of audio-visual content, excluding news and current affairs. These regulations aim to ensure compliance and promote public health awareness regarding the risks of tobacco use.
