ChatGPT Passes Wharton MBA Exam, Professor Warns AI Will Decrease “Value of Education”

The rise of OpenAI's chatbot, ChatGPT, has caused concern among academics and educators, as it has the ability to easily complete assignments and even exams for core business courses like Operations Management. A professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business recently released a paper outlining ChatGPT's performance on an Operations Management exam, stating that the chatbot "does an amazing job at basic operations management and process analysis questions" but struggles with more advanced topics. This has led to comparisons to the impact electronic calculators had on the corporate world, with some experts arguing that the automation of certain skills could potentially decrease the value of an MBA education. However, it is worth noting that ChatGPT is still in its infancy, and as software giant Microsoft considers a $10 billion investment in OpenAI, the venture behind ChatGPT, it is clear that the chatbot is here to stay.
